Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral

IMG_20150131_163119518_HDRAfter being in Cork for a few days I have been walking a lot around town and looking a lot at the architecture but mostly at one Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral. This cathedral is only round the corner from where I live and I’ve found my self walking to it over and over again and taking lots of pictures of elements of the architecture and elements of the design of the building.

This building is one of the first main pieces of work by William Burges a Victorian architect. The buildings style is early French which William had a preference for, as well as Gothic Revival. IMG_20150131_163503223

On my wonders I have walked all the way around the Cathedral and from every angle it just gets IMG_20150131_163646269better for me. Small elements like the circle of smaller windows in the centre of the front of the Cathedral.

Field Final Pieces

IMG_1335My final pieces turned out a lot better then i had expected. The main piece that i have made is a large birdhouse out of off cuts of laser cutting. The piece i see it as a piece with could either be in a gallery using the lights that are in the bottom of the small houses. I think this could also be a piece for birds to live in, i would have to take out the lights but that would be fine to put in some more bases. This piece is very influence by maps and the street view, i only really noticed the maps only a few weeks before our deadline. IMG_1289

The second part of my final pieces are birdhouses that i will be selling online. some will be night time ones with the Cardiff skyline on them at night. The second lot will be flower birdhouses with etched flowers on them. and some will be plain to be customisable for the buyer for either them to paint and decorate or for them to ask me to paint something on them. IMG_1150

Results of New Questionnaire

After having the questionnaire up for a few weeks I’ve gotten 28 people to answer the questions. on survey monkey they have a page where it puts the results in to graphs and tables with the results in.

I think that the results came out really well. I wish that we could of had a few more questions and i think they could of been a little more interesting. but theses were the results of the online questionnaire .

Survey Monkey Questionnaire

After doing the first blog post about our questionnaire i realised that there was no way to actually collate the results. I looked at the questions and re-wrote them to be able to get a number of answers on a specific answer rather then people writing answers that could never be collated together to get any number of peoples answers.

I used all the same questions i just re-worded them and put a selection of answers for them to answer and closed the questions so that they can give specific answers.

The first page on the questionnaire is just saying about what it is for and about the fact that its for Cardiff Met studies. I also used it to say about the ethics of the images and how they can be upsetting.

The second page went straight in to the questions. Using the first questions about colours but changing it to people putting them in the order of preference, very simple just putting them number order._SURVEY_PREVIEW_MODE__Social_Impact_Questionaire_Survey 2

The second question was originally them putting down the charities that they give to, because of our homeless research and that we were working on i decided just to ask about homelessness and find out if they had given money to homeless charities. and also used it to _SURVEY_PREVIEW_MODE__Social_Impact_Questionaire_Survey 3

Question number 3 was about animal testing and the body shop and their campaign that they did against it. This piece was very affective and the questions again was changed from the original more just to ask how people feel about animal testing.

Number 4 was about a piece of public art called Give A Sh*t to promote hygiene facilities for the homeless. the question was just asking if they knew what this piece symbolised. _SURVEY_PREVIEW_MODE__Social_Impact_Questionaire_Survey 5

The final question was very simple just asking how people felt about homelessness very similar to the original question .

So thats a run down of the questionnaire that i did on survey monkey .

if you want to fill it out it will help towards the final results of the survey. the link is Social Impact Questionnaire

Final Group Presentation

For our final presentation click >  Final presentation group field

i think the presentation went well we got everything we wanted to say said for our work we have gotten done through the weeks of collaboration.

Collaborative Outdoor Work

Final sloagnThis was our main question for the public to either draw or write about their thing that makes them feel at home. we found a lot of people saw a lot of material possessions like PS4 then some people said family and friends makes them feel at home.SAM_0156

I think this piece was really good. i got to get out of my comfort zone and talk to people who i don’t know which was very nerve racking for me being a very quiet person but i did ask a lot of people for their thoughts. when we  were quiet and there was no one about we found that no one really wanted to do the sticky notes. Then when there were lots of people doing the notes then more people wanted to join in and find out what it was about.

There were a few people who spent a lot of time on this like the lady who did this one for usSAM_0155. she was obviously a very spiritual person and i think she really enjoyed doing this for us.

Final outcome in town (2) Final outcome in town (1)

I’m happy that the amount of people that got involved for our work and I’m glad that it all went well.

As a group we did really well and I’m glad that we got it done on such a good day.

Collaborative Making

1146495_10203638002097730_198367062_nFor our final piece we decided that we would make some cardboard furniture the same as homeless people do. their whole homes that they make are out of cardboard. i think that we  could of designed them a lot better and spent bait more time making hem better too. but all together we got them made and we got a main question to ask people when they write on the card/sticky notes.1901267_10203638002497740_166267353_n

The question was What Makes You Feel At Home?

We literally made all the furniture out of card, glue and tape. made out of 3 large boxes a chair, a table, a person cut out and just a box that was flattened for the 10001537_10203638003417763_32851971_nbackground. for peoples drawings and sticky notes.

Glazing – Group Bonding

1382902_10203637985537316_1208390562_n 1904161_10203637985217308_1071538081_nDue to the  health and safety and teachers having other workshops we actually couldnt do any other workshops from our group so flo decided that if they had some premade glazes then we could all just go and glaze the things we had thrown because they had be fired.

So after a bisc firing so the clay is all solid and has now gone a grey/white color. so it was ready to be glazed. to glaze the pots we had to pour the glazes into the pots and then pour them out to be able to get a even covering on the inside of the pot. you then hold it upsidedown to let all the final bits of liquid glze to come out then you hold it as tight as possible on the bottom of the pot and you dip it in the glaze. this is extreamly hard to do because you really really dont want to drop the pot into the glaze because then you will lose the pot for a while.

1962602_10203637986537341_825119014_nonce you have got a nice coating on the inside and the out of the pot you can then use the other coloured glazes to add patterns and things on to the pots . all out the pots we did ended up all really good and all very different.1932479_10203638000977702_1608922084_n

im really glad that we did our group bonding sessions becaue i think we ended up getting to spend time together not having to think about the group project. we got to relax and have a good time with still the element of the group stuff still in there. just no so much for the hard working side it was more just to get to know each other even if it was close to the end of the project i think it was still a good call for us to do this because i dont think any one has done anything like this. no group have gone into eachothers areas and had a play and had a few days just doing this rather then focousing on all of the ideas.

Idea Generation Game

1904265_10203444144251405_167419681_nI was ill for this meeting but got told all about it so im just going to put what i understand that they came out with from the day.

so the idea generation game is where you sit in silence for 5 mins getting your own ideas down with small sketches and words that are relivent to you and the project. Once the 5 mins are over you then talk about what you had and everyone licks ones that they think are relivent and they all look at similaities between everyones. you then end up with a few that are very similar that then get grouped together and then a few things that as a group you decide are the most relivent.1621812_10203444143131377_1447659019_n

they did want to narrow down the ideas and things but because i wasnt there they didnt want to do it with out me so they settled with their 5 groups.

things came about like molding a small homeless person in clay casting it and creating lots of them to show numbers of the homeless in the uk in areas. but there was a problem with ethics. there were a few things about peoples emotions images of peoples emotions when they saw shocking images. then a few things about public art.

from this i honestly dont know where this project is going and how this was actually meant to help. but im happy to of found out about the work they did while i was ill.

Throwing Pots – Group Bonding

As a group we worked well from when we first met but we thought to bing a few more outcomes to our grou p stuff and show we work well as a group we thought we would do a couple of workshops. we are hopfully going to do one in each of our specialities.

1962741_10203430056339216_991488219_nThe first workshop we got to do was Ceramics with Florence. Her small workshop was Throwing. This was a really really good idea for us all, it turns out we are all very very messy people. but we had a really big laughdoing this.1947407_10203430057739251_2059321569_n

Flo showed us step by step on how to throw a pot and we all kind of followed but we all failed a few times before we got somthing that was actually known as a pot.

This was actually one of my pots which i was extreamly impressed with it because of it being one of my first time throwing somthing that didnt fall appart.

we did end up with a selection of good pots in the end and i was happy with how the day had turned out. we just spent time getting to know eachother and geting to spend time together not thinking about the details of our field stuff.
